ELECTION DAY IS ALMOST HERE!!

Tuesday, November 5th is election day in Wallingford. Once again I seek your support to serve a third term on the Wallingford Town Council.

This has not been an easy year for me or my family. I lost an older brother late in 2012, in April of 2013, I had prostate cancer surgery in New York City. One week from returning home from surgery, I was completing my resume and preparing for a promotional opportunity at AT&T. I gave myself no time to heal mentally or physically. I jumped back in to life like it was a spinning carousel and almost fell off.

It was during this period that I considered resigning my town council position and disengage from what is a very hectic life to heal. I'm glad I didn't act on that impulse.

Being a Town Councilor is not an easy job, its not a glamorous job either. It's a job that requires dedication, accountability and heart, lots of heart. Those are three characteristics that truly define me.

This year, you have thirteen choices for council. Don't be fooled by the election rhetoric, all are good people who have stepped forward to serve their town. All have put themselves in a win or lose situation. The past two elections I have seen winners do fist pumps in the air, while tears ran down the cheeks of those that lost.

I do enjoy representing all of you as a Councilor. There are times of great gratification and times of bitter frustration. Throughout it all, I have done my best to be open minded and make good decisions based on whats best for you. I don't play politics and I never will. I will continue to work in a bipartisan manner with my colleagues, and when I see politics being played I will call it out, regardless of who it is and what party they belong to.You deserve nothing less but honest representation.

Here are three things I promise you I will always do:

  • I will support and maintain a fiscally responsible government. I will maintain and support our AAA bond rating and do my very best to maintain a stable tax base.
  • I will support our Police, Fire, and 911 Emergency Service. None of you will ever live in fear of walking the streets at any time day or night while I'm in office. I will continue to support a fully staffed, well equipped and highly trained Police Department. The same goes for the Wallingford Fire Department including 911 Emergency Services. In a time of medical emergency you will receive a quick response by a trained paramedic.
  • I will continue to support a school system that challenges students and prepares them for the future. I know, every candidate says that. However, my record is very clear, I have consistently supported the Superintendent of Schools strategic plan and supported our administrators and teachers.
I thank you for the opportunity to serve you the last four years. Please vote on November 5th.

Best regards to all of you!

sincerely,

John Sullivan
