Councilor Sullivan on Mayor Dickinsons decision to cut life-saving Paramedics from the 2011/2012 budget

"One public service we should never abate is the one we are charged to protect - the health and welfare of Wallingford citizens, these are your tax dollars. I refuse to support a budget that does not protect its citizenry."

Why I am seeking a third term on the Wallingford Town Council

Let me open by thanking you for visiting my blog site. This could be a wonderful way for us to have a two way dialogue on the issues we both feel are important to this great town we live in.  As a Wallingford resident for all of my 54 years, I have a profound love for this town. In the past I have described Wallingford as a town of values and traditions. I firmly believe Wallingford residents value our children's education, we value our safety which is reflected in our Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical personnel.  We value our downtown, our library, and our recreational services and municipal facilities. Most importantly, we value each other.

Wallingford is also a town of Tradition. Wallingford Tradition can be found at either Riccitelli or Fitzgerald field during Thanksgiving week, it can also be found on the first weekend of October as we come together as a community during Celebrate Wallingford. I see it every December as we march with Frosty the Snowman to the town green to light the Town Christmas tree.

It is due to these values and traditions that I wish to represent you for another term on the Town Council. I want to ensure our children have the best education we can offer. I look forward to working in partnership with the Board of Education to push closer and closer to achieving the Superintendents Strategic Plan.

In terms of Public Safety, I want to ensure you can feel safe in town no matter where you go. I want you to feel secure knowing that when you pick up the phone and dial 911 that a fireman, police officer, or paramedic is only minutes away from arriving to your home.

We all know how deeply our slumping economy has impacted our nation. Like many of you, the Sullivan family lives paycheck to paycheck. We have forgone summer vacations and new cars, the thermostat remains at 62 degrees in the winter and a fan has replaced the air conditioner in the summer. While many economists have stated the recession is over, many of us would be happy to tell them otherwise. I understand how important proper budgeting is to your family, its equally important to our local government as well. We no longer have the luxury of holding a nest egg. We must now carefully balance the services we need with the revenue we receive.

This is why I am running. I wish to preserve the values and traditions of Wallingford.

I hope I can count on your support on election day. Please feel free to email your thoughts at CouncilorSullivan@snet.net
